Miami Fishing Guide:Biscayne Bay, Islamorada Fishing Report.

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The fishing this year has been phenomenal! There are plenty of tarpon still swimming on the ocean and the permit and bonefishing has been very productive. There have been plenty of big schools of bonefish around and feeding really well. The permit fishing is getting better and better each day and I’m expecting a great summer with lots of big permit to be caught.

The fishing in Flamingo (Everglades National Park) has been good with big schools of redfish on the flats and big trout in the pot-holes. The snook fishing has been productive on the beaches along with a mixed bag of big trout and jacks. We caught a nice cobia off the beach on Sunday, but she was two inches short so we had to release her back.

For those of you who are worried about oil in are neck of the woods, you have nothing to worry about. There is no oil in south Florida, and there are plenty of fish out there to be caught.

Miami Flats Fishing Report: Tarpon, Permit, And Bonefish

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Tarpon fishing in June for those of you who don’t know is still prime time. Last week I was in the middle and lower keys tarpon fishing waiting for the Polola warm hatch too happened. The Polola warm hatch is a hatch that only happens during the last full moon typically in late May and early June. When this happens, the tarpon go nuts over these worms.

When the worm hatch happens in full swing there are usually hundreds of tarpon slurping worms off the surface just like a brown trout would on a may fly.  It’s one of the coolest things you can experience as a fisherman and it’s definitely something every fly fisherman should experience at some point in there life.

Early this past week I got away from tarpon fishing and did a little permit and bonefishing. It was nice to get away from the same routine of chasing tarpon everyday and see what was happening on the flats. It was good to see there are plenty of bonefish and permit around and now is one of the best times of year to catch a grand slam.

The pictures below are of Mike Alcalde with a stellar day of Permit fishing. He went 3 for 5 on pemit and it was his first time ever permit fishing.

There are lots of fish moving in Biscayne Bay right now and if you’re not out there on your own or with a guide you’re missing out on some really good fishing.

I have some days open in June, so if you’re interested in booking a trip give me a call so we can go over some dates. I’m also taking bookings now for next years tarpon season, and as of now I have the last week of May 2011 open for the Polola warm hatch for those of you who want to experience some really cool tarpon fishing.
