Miami Fishing Charter/ Guide:Biscayne Bay Bonefish

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

I fished Mike Alcalde on a half day afternoon trip and he wanted to catch a big shark on light tackle. We needed to catch some decent size barracuda to use for chumming up the shark and to use as bait. Unfortunately we couldn’t get a Barracuda to commit, so we ended up bonefishing the last hour of our trip.

The water temperature all week has been in low 60’s and that is never a good thing for bonefish especially late in the afternoon with cold air temperatures. Within ten minutes I spotted a group of fish coming off a channel onto the flat and Mike makes a perfect cast and hooks his first bonefish ever. After several nice runs, we got the fish to the boat and it was a perfect specimen of a typical average size Biscayne Bay Bonefish.

Great job Mike I’m sure you’re hooked now, and next time I’ll get you on that big shark you’re looking for.

I had the pleasure of fishing with first time customer Juan Balloveras and our goal was to get Juan his first Biscayne Bay Bonefish on fly. Juan has been trying to get a bonefish on fly in Miami for two year and has hooked several, but has never been able to land one. Well I’m here to say that the monkey is off is back.

Juan and I fished on Monday and it was a really slow day as far as bonefishing goes. The fish were just not swimming that day. At the last spot of the day I spotted a school of about 30 bonefish and I tell Juan to make a cast at eleven o’clock thirty feet. He let the fly sink stripped twice and he was hooked up! After a few short runs Juan brings the fish to the side of my skiff and I landed his first Biscayne Bay Bonefish. After a couple of hoot and hollering and a few quick pictures we released the fish. The bonefish wasn’t the biggest fish, but none the less it was a bonefish and our goal was reached.

I am very happy for Juan and I respect him for never giving up and reaching his goal, even if it took two years to in the making. Now the rest are easy Juan and I look forward to catching many more bonefish with you on my skiff.

Biscayne Bay has had plenty of bonefish and we are averaging several fish a day. There has been plenty of Barracudas on the flats and they are allot of fun on light tackle and artificial lures. The barracudas have been between 5 and 20 lbs. Also on the flats the lemon and bull sharks have been plentiful and they are a blast on 20 lbs spinning gear.

Flamingo (Everglades National Park) has loads of redfish, trout, and Black Drum. It is not uncommon to catch 50 to 100 fish in a day right now.

Now is a great time too come down and fish and catch a variety of different species on light tackle.

Miami Fishing Guide And Charter:Biscayne Bay Shark Fishing

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

The bonefishing remains strong in Biscayne Bay along with some decent permit fishing mixed in. The tarpon are stacked up pretty good in Government cut, but I’ve only been able to make it out when it’s not so windy. The shark fishing has been good on the flats with plenty of lemon and bull sharks to keep you busy when everything else is slow.
