Miami Biscayne Bay Fishing Report:Big Bonefish In Biscayne Bay.

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009
November is one of my favorite months of the year. Blue bird skies, the water temperature is cooling off, fried turkey and the bonefishing has been on fire!

I was booked most of the week and I found myself splitting days between Biscayne Bay and Flamingo. The fishing was great in both locations. Biscayne Bay has had one of the best bonfishing that I’ve seen in a while. There are plenty of fish to be caught through out the whole day. Like I mentioned in my previous report the big fish are moving in! Now is the time to get into double digit fish and most of the fish are averaging 5 to 8 lbs and many bonefish in the 9 to 12 lbs range.

Flamingo Snook

Flamingo has had plenty of redfish and snook around. We have been catching them on pretty much everything. Flies, artificial, and live bait all depending on the angler and conditions.

The fishing is only going to get better and now is a great time to book a trip for your self or make it a gift for a friend or family member for the holidays. I am offer a special until the end of the year. Book two days in a row and pay only half day price for each day. This offer only applies if you mention this report.

Miami Bonefishing Guide:Big Bonefish Moving In Biscayne Bay.

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

The winds finally calmed down a bit and with a cold front that moved through meant cooler water temperatures and happy bonefish. I was booked a few day’s this past week and the bonefishing was great. We found plenty of fish in the three to five foot depth as well as some fish tailing in the middle of the afternoon on the lowest part of the tide when the flats heated up.

The fishing is only going to get better in Miami Biscayne bay as well as the Florida Keys and Flamingo (Everglades National Park).

Miami And Flamingo Fishing Report:Heavy Winds All Week.

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

This past week had heavy winds and some light rain keeping us at the dock all week.  Everyday it’s been blowing 20 to 30 knots and gusting to 40. This is not ideal fishing conditions no matter what size boat you have let alone a flats skiff.

According to the weather man the winds are going to start to decrease by Wednesday so I was able to reschedule some of my trips for the end of the week.

The water temperature is starting to cool off witch is going to make the bonefish more active on the flats and keep them around most of the day. This is the time of year where the big bonefish start coming around as well. Flamingo Everglades National Park is starting to see changes as well. Cooler water temperatures along with loads of bait up the coast right now have all types of species chasing the bait. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, tarpon, and cobia are having a feeding frenzy. Find the birds and you will find the fish up the coast.

The flats in flamingo still have plenty of snook and trout in the pot holes and the redfish are still around on the flats, just not in the massive schools that we were encountering in the summer. Up the coast there have been several groups of redfish feeding and chasing the mullet and thread-fins as well.

This is a great time of year to get out and do some fishing. Were in a transitions period and there are fish everywhere. Give me a call and let me guide you to a trip you won’t forget.

Bonefish Flies:Flies That Work In Miami, Biscayne Bay, And Florida Keys.

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Today I was tying some flies and wanted to share with you what fly pattern that’s been working really well for me. It’s a bonefish toad fly, but instead of using  brown and tan I’ve been using chartreuse mixed with light tan.

What you will need:

Hook:          Gamakatsu BS10 #4

Thread:        Light Tan or Chartreuse whatever you prefer.

Eyes:           Small or extra small lead eyes depending on the water depth.

Tail:             Chartreuse Craft Fur and charteuse crystal flash.

Body:          Polypropylene Yarn Tan.

Weedgard:  Mason 16# hard mono.

First rap the shank and tie on your lead eyes by figure eighting them in place.

Once your done figure eighting the eyes make sure you rap your thread back in order to tie in the craft fur tail along with your crystal flash.

After tying in the craft fur bar the tail with a brown sharpie then tie in the crystal flash.

Now your ready to figure eight the yarn in. You should only need four to five pieces. Dont forget to turn the hook upright before you tie the body in place.

Cut off the excess yarn and make it into a crab shape then tie your weedgard in. Use whatever head cement you like to finish the fly.

Try this fly next time you go bonefishing, you wont be disapointed.

The Fishing in Biscayne Bay remains strong especially with the permit fishing. The bonefishing  has been consistant with plenty of smaller fish in the bay and ocean side flats. Once the water tempature cools off the big boys should start to show.

Give me a call and let me guide you to some of the best bonefishing and permit fishing in the world.
